First Circular

Frankfurt, 8 Mai, 2003

Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce the Tenth International Symposium on Experimental Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry (EMPG X), which will be held at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany, between 4-7 April 2004. The EMPG X Symposium is an official EMU (European Mineralogical Union) conference.
The symposium continues the series of biennial meetings previously held in Nancy, Bochum, Edinburgh, Clermont-Ferrand, London, Bayreuth, Orléans, Bergamo and Zurich. Following the tradition established by these conferences, emphasis will be given to all experimental aspects of Earth Sciences. The presentation of purely analytical work is discouraged. Contributions to the meeting are welcome, particularly in the areas of biomineralisation; surface properties of minerals and solution chemistry; redox processes; experiments under extreme conditions; experimental phase equilibria; mineral chemistry; physical properties of minerals, melts, fluids and rocks; novel experimental techniques; element and isotope partitioning; reaction mechanisms and kinetics; deformation processes; and experiments related to the origin of planets, meteorites and solar system material.
The second circular, including registration and abstract information, as well as information regarding accommodation will be available from our home page by the end of September 2003. The abstract deadline will be 12 January, 2004.
Registration fees will be on the order of 270/160 Euro (full/student) and will include lunches, refreshments, the conference dinner and a public transport pass.
